First published in April 2000, The Children and its companion volume, Migrations, have been garnering tremendous international attention ever since. Exhibited across the globe, from Brazil to Paris and Germany to New York, Sebastião Salgado's photographs continue to tour and to transform the perceptions of those who view them. As a testament to both their power and their relevance, a major exhibition of photographs from The Children was mounted as part of the United Nations Millennium Assembly in 2000.
A world-renowned exemplar of the tradition of "concerned photography," Sebastião Salgado has been awarded virtually every major photographic prize in France, Germany, Holland, Spain, Sweden, and the United States, including the W. Eugene Smith Grant in Humanistic Photography. He has also been named Photographer of the Year on two occasions by the International Center of Photography in New York.

Soft cover. Zustand: Very Good. Large softcover. Inscribed and signed by the author/photographer. Folio (9.75 x 13 inches). Black & white glossy wraps, photo cover front and back. Light surface wear and edge wear, nothing egregious. Bonding is solid, no crease on spine. 98 beautifully reproduced b&w portraits, each a full page. Salgado's talent is extraordinary. The photos have a steady, powerful impact. Truly, this is a statement on the universality of childhood. Laid into this copy are actual news clippings of Salgado's visit to Santa Fe, New Mexico in September, 2001, just after the World Trade Center attacks. His visit was to attend events surrounding an exhibition titled "Migrations: Humanity in Transition & The Children". It consisted of 300 photos hung in three different venues. He signed this copy "To Mary Anne and all kids of our planet". Inscribed by Author(s). Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 001573
