4to. Pp. 47 - 200. 21 plates, many folding. Modern cloth binding with a leather label. A very good copy. Ottley tried unsuccessfully to prove that BM Ms. Harl. 647 was of 2nd or 3rd century date rather than 9th century. His critique gives a good example of the state of palaeographical research at that time and also offers a useful text of Aratus' Phaenomena with engraved reproductions of the original illustrations.

folio. pp. 1 p.l., xxxvi, xx. 117 mounted etchings & engravings on 63 leaves (incl. 6 on silver paper - 5 of them duplicates). 19th century half chagrin, gilt edges (lower corners worn, joints & other extremities rubbed, foxing to a number of sheets - most of the mounted engravings unaffected). First Edition. Ottley was a noted English collector of and writer on art, amateur artist, and Keeper of the Department of Prints and Drawings at the British Museum. The present work contains facsimile prints executed by Ottley himself after originals by old masters of the Italian, German and Flemish schools including Baldini, Altobello, Van Mecken, Schongauer, Graf, &c. Among them are a suite of playing cards after Schonguaer and a print of a man and woman playing chess. Following the plate list this copy appears to be missing 11 small prints from a life of Christ series although they are also not present in another copy that we have seen.
