1 S. Qu.-32mo. Elsa Brandström, der Engel von Sibirien", hatte nach 1915 für das schwedische Rote Kreuz in Sibirien eine grundlegende medizinische Versorgung einzurichten geholfen. Nachdem ihr Mann, der Pädagogik-Professor Robert Ulich, 1933 eine Professur an der Harvard University angenommen hatte und die Familie in die USA übersiedelt war, kümmerte sie sich seit Ende der dreißiger Jahre um Flüchtlingshilfe für ankommende Deutsche und Österreicher. 1939 eröffnet sie den Window-Shop', ein Restaurant als Arbeitsbeschaffungsmaßnahme für Flüchtlinge in Cambridge (Massachusetts). Diese Einrichtung wurde 1948 zu ihren Ehren in Elsa Brandstrom Ulich Assistance Fund' umbenannt (Wikipedia, Abfrage v. 14. III. 2009). Beiliegend einige Zeitungsausschnitte.
