Condition is VERY GOOD ; corners worn and bumped, covers rubbed and sunned, spine worn, with upper inch missing. Binding is tight, text is free of markings and clean but has mild foxing. traces of ink on rear pastedown. Rare. RGR.

Likely printed around 1850. 224 pages. Binding good and tight. There is some puckering to the cloth on the back cover, and a rectangle of uneven fading, as though this book were at the bottom of a pile of smaller books & exposed to the sun for a while. Text block good and tight. Pages evenly faded from age. This is the first book with illustrations by John Tenniel, who's fame is assured by his illustrations for Alice in Wonderland (done a few years after this).
