Antique print, titled: 'Sterke Ijsgang op den Rijn. Redding van menschen en vee uit den Arnhemschen Waard, 5 maart.' - This print shows the strong ice drift on the Rhine. Rescue of people and livestock from the floodchannel near Arnhem, March 5th. Etching on wove (vellin) paper. Description: From: 'De Waterramp van 1855. Geschetst in 24 afbeeldingen & naar de natuur geteekend en geetst door leden der Maatschappij Arte et Amicitiae.', published in 1855. This collection of etchings was published by this Amsterdam Art Society in support of the flooding disaster of 1855 in the Netherlands. We also carry the complete set. Please inquire if interested.Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Johann Wilhelm Kaiser' after 'J. Pelgrom'. Johann Wilhelm (Jan Willem) Kaiser (1813-1900) was a Dutch artist and engraver. Little is known of his works but book illustrations. He is, however, known in the philatelic world as the designer of the first Dutch stamp, as well as other early stamps. Condition: Good, given age. Some small stains in margin. Stamp on reverse. Light crease in top right of print and margin. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
