The boards are lightly dust stained, and lightly chipped at the edges.Intermittently throughout the book, the blank outer edge at the head of the page is bumped and lightly creased; the blank tail of pp51 to 54 have a small strip of clear tape as though repairing a closed tear, though no damage is visible; pp59 to 74 carry a damp stain on the head's outer edge, it does not impact the print, but from pp 61 to 66 it's quite loud. The front paste down ahs a neat ownership signature; back one has pencil annotations referencing pages. It all sounds worst than it actually is. A solid copy with aesthetic faults. The 1933 edition is the last edition before Alfred Döblin's books were banned and burnt.

Döblin's Modernist masterpiece, memorably filmed by Rainer Werner Fassbinder in 1980, inhabits the underworld of an interbellum Germany. The book has some random marks to the front and the spine is a bit darkened. Top edge yellow. Owner's bookplate to verso. Otherwise about Fine throughout: entirely clean and square with entirely firm binding. Loosely inserted, contemporary, 8-side fold-out advert: 'Wer ist Joseph Conrad?'.
