This is the only showing in the United States of the already famous windows which will be installed in their permanent setting in February. The windows were commissioned by Hadassah, the Women's Zionist Organization of America, through Dr. Miriam Freund, who was national President at that time". Chagall was first commissioned by Ambroise Vollard for illustrations of the Old Testament, and traveled to Tel Aviv in 1931 under invitation of Meir Dizengoff, a Zionist leader and first mayor of Tel Aviv, who later contributed to the creation of the State of Israel. In 1960, Chagall started the Jerusalem Windows to represent the twelve tribes of Israel. [84827].
