Overall, this is a solid, sharp and clean, Very Good+ copy in a worn, Near Very Good glassine jacket, which has creased tears and short losses to the spine ends, edges and corners, a bit of cross creasing along the hinges and folds, and sunning to the spine. Housed in a Near Very Good slipcase, which has bumps to the corners, wear along the edges, light scuffing to the head and base panels, some rubbing to the title plate with a touch of lifting starting around its edges, and a couple areas of soiling to the right and rear panels. Only 1 out of every 20 copies were printed in blue. This book measures approximately 8.75" x 6.75", with 366 numbered pages. With the 3 most important first edition points: Page 9 "Huck Decided to Leave"; On page 13 "Him and another Man" at page 88; and on page 57 "with the was". A signed hand written letter by Mark Twain has been professionally affixed to the front endpaper. Condition overall very good. Original cloth covers expertly repaired at the corners, edges, spine ends, and joints. Interior pages have minor staining. The signed letter reads: "London, May 22/97. My Dear Mr. Edwards: In the circumstances, I do not go out, but am a hermit. But I thank you heartily all the same. Sincerely Yours, Mark Twain". Huckleberry Finn is noted for "changing the course of children's literature" in the US for the "deeply felt portrayal of boyhood". Set in a Southern antebellum society, the story is told from the point of view of Huck Finn - a teen who faces an adventurous journey down the Mississippi River together with a runaway slave named Jim. Accompanied by a linen-covered portfolio containing an extra set of the engravings, both enclosed in a linen-covered slipcase. (xxxiv), 419, (vii) pages. One of 350 copies signed by the artist Barry Moser. A near fine copy with the accompanying portfolio in fine condition. This edition was published on February 18, 1985 on the one hundredth anniversary of the publishing of the first American edition. It is full bound in a deep green morocco with borders of triple gold fillets on top and bottom covers by E. Gray Parrot, then of Easthampton, Massachusetts. A calligraphic pair of dates 1885, 1985 circled in gold, and spine decorated with gold fillets and title. Orange striped paste papers were used for the endpapers. Accompanied by the publisher's extra suite of 49 prints housed in a liner folder with the book and suite of plates housed in a linen slipcase. The publisher's Prospectus is laid in. As stated by John Henry Nash in his foreword, we are reminded "that the course of American literature was changed by Huck Finn. Second, that the use of speech as narrative won for American literature its own kind of freedom." A fine collector's copy in a like folder and slipcase. The book was printed by Harold McGrath.
