Vertical crease to the middle of the pamphlet where it was once folded. 'By Jason Whitman' written very lightly in pencil to the front cover above the name of the publisher. Inside, light foxing throughout, and very slight creasing to a few tips. Otherwise, a very good copy - clean and unmarked - of this exceptionally rare tract. After his graduation from Harvard in 1825, Whitman studied theology at Cambridge and was ordained in 1830. After an initial post as pastor in Saco, Maine, he served as general secretary of the American Unitarian Association in Boston, and headed the Second Unitarian Society in Portland, Maine, from 1835 to 1845. He was installed as pastor of the First Congregational Society in Lexington, where he remained until his death in 1848.
