In Berlin schrieb er für Tages- und Fachzeitschriften, unter anderem für "Das junge Deutschland", die "Schaubühne" und Paul Cassirers "Sturm". Auf sozialgeschichtlicher und psychologischer Grundlage untersuchte er die Entwicklung der Malerei.
