Woodcuts; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 104 pages; 1857 Phillips, Sampson & Co. HC 1st edition. Soundly bound in original ribbed orange cloth with titles and decoarative borders and brackets in blind to cover and lettered vertically with gilt outlined blind stamped letters to spine. 1858 gift inscription from a teacher to student on the front flyleaf: "William P. High from his teacher, F. P. Muhhlenberg, Christmas Dec 25, 1858." Frank P. Muhlenberg mustered into service with 1st Regiment, Co. G. In Reading PA in April 1861 and promoted to Captain in January, 1862. He is recorded as being assigned to guard the funeral train of Lincoln in upstate New York. Cloth rubbed and worn at tips and spine ends with shallow fray at spine ends and a tiny nick to the cloth base of spine. Binding sound but a little shaken with several signatures starting and light distress to some pages at the binding cord points. Scattered moderate fxing and reader finger soiling.
