A monumental work about German castles; a complète set of nine volumes. 251 chapters mostly deals with castles in what is present-day Germany but Austrian, Bohemian and Silesian castles are also included. Every volume contains an engraving in the frontispiece and another smaller engraving on the title page. There are additional engravings in volumes 1 and 2 (one of the castle of Trosky in Bohemia, the other of Scharfenberg an der Elbe). Volumes 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 are from the first edition; vols. 1, 3 and 4 are from the second, revised one; vol. 2 is from the third, revised edition.
